COMMON NAME:
Bicolor Bolete

DESCRIPTION:
Rose-red cap with yellow pores.
FRUIT BODY:
Cap 2-6" (5-15cm) wide; rose-red cap; dry, developing yellow and rust colored tones; stalk 2-4" (5-10cm) long, 3/8-1 1/2" (1-3cm) thick; yellow with rose-red tones slowly staining Prussian blue when bruised.
FERTILE SURFACE:
Bright lemon yellow pores when young, dingy yellow with age; staining blue-green when bruised; spore print olive-brown.
FLESH:
Yellow, slowly bruising Prussian blue.
LOOK ALIKES:
Boletus sensibilis (poisonous?) has a brick-red cap and bruises blue instantly.
ODOR & TASTE:
Mild taste.
HABITAT & SEASON:
Fruits on the ground under oaks from late June to October.
EDIBILITY / USES:
Edible and choice. Dries well for future use.

Be absolutely certain of your ID before eating this mushroom!
